Illumination is the percentage of the Moon's Earth-facing disc lit by the Sun. Waxing means that fraction is increasing; waning means it is decreasing.
Lunar age counts days since the new moon. A complete cycle averages about 29.53 days, so your birthday falls at a different point in the cycle each year.
This tool uses ChronoWaves' approximate mean lunar cycle model. Phase names describe broad portions of the cycle; illumination and lunar age are estimates, especially for dates far from the reference epoch. This is a personal astronomy keepsake, without personality predictions.
